This is the first of two similar concerts. The second performance is in Birmingham on 17th June.


A programme of British cello music celebrating the 90th Anniversary of John Barton Armstrong’s birth, with:

The featured work at this event is John Barton Armstrong’s Cello Sonata, a very substantial single-movement piece of nearly half an hour’s duration that ranks as one of his most important compositions after his symphonies and opera. Also featured is Peter Thompson’s The Renaissance Spirit, a solo piano work written in memory of John Barton Armstrong. Both The Renaissance Spirit and Martin Glover’s Interstate are receiving their first performances at these concerts.
