Hope and Fear

arranged for solo baritone and piano

Peter Thompson

£9.50

Thirty years after the publication of the original Hope and Fear for five-part professional choir, Peter Thompson has now produced a brand new reworking of the piece for Baritone solo and String Orchestra. Here, however, we have an arrangement of the new version for the less ambitious forces of Baritone solo and Piano.

Both new versions are dedicated to Richard G. Hallas, who was instrumental in suggesting that the music might gain by being available to more performers in a different guise (and who, in his rôle as KeyNote, has typeset them).

In the absence of a live recording of this piece, John Meccanico, Baritone and Jean Meccanico, Piano have obliged to give you an idea of how it sounds

Video

In the absence of a real performance, this video presents the same synthetic sound as is credited to John Meccanico above. However, here it is enhanced with imagery and a synchronised text display that writes out the words of the poem in approximate time with the music. For any viewer who finds this distracting, and would prefer to see the lines of text appear all at once, this effect can also be achieved by turning on the subtitles.
